August 27th, 2022 - METAMORPHOSIS
This was the reckoning for a journey of a lifetime! The first show I ever played was at my friend Jacob's house, who you will later see as Alpha Nine. The other DJs were Daledi (aka Dylan) 1800-Lolita (Lola) and Jacob's two other crusty roommates.
The night was nothing short of magical. Probably one of the best nights of my life. The head count was 495 people who attended this backyard DiY rave.
sry its so low quality |
I got up to the decks at midnight and started playing. I played a good variety. Started with witchhouse and then progressed into hardcore gabber. People were JUMPING-- and I mean just rain dancing. It started pouring, which you can kinda see on the picture I placed here. People didn't care, they danced anyway.
This one definitely put me on the map, my friends were boasting about my set and created a notoriety for my name. Ahri, i chose the name because I was doing anagrams with my real name, Rhiannon. Ahri came up and I realized it was also the name of one of my favorite League of Legends characters. It really sticks.
Here's two more snaps of this event. Trust it gets better!
45 minutes into my set, the cops showed up and shut it down hard. I wear it as a badge of honor, I suppose.
Here's my favorite song from this set, the ground was.. SHAKING when I played this.
October 8th, 2022 - Party!
Sorry this is so generalized LMAO I don't even remember much of this night or why there was a party. My friend Maria wanted Jacob and I to throw a little backyard rager and it turned out great! All of my friends showed up and danced for us. I played a lot of my usual autism music but Jacob was there to please the crowd.
October 28th, 29th & 30th, 2022 - Ahri's Tally Tour
This was a weekend of straight DJ'ing. Fortunately, we had a good setup with the guitar center speakers. These shows are probably the most dirt on my hands, boots on the group, DiY event I've ever organized. From the flyer, to the equipment. Jacob and I did most of the work.
Here's me jumping up and down in excitement. The 28th was Night of The Living Dolls. A drag performance series with Dainty Wist, Corduroy, Iris Virus, and Ashtroyd. This night was surely chaotic, but TONS of people showed up. This was great for the Haus of Solara and great for Alpha Nine! My sister and her friends came to this one and got too trashed.. so I had to fireman carry her friend back to my apartment. DJ A-nine took over and gave such a great set! When I returned, I saw people doing the hakken. Not something you see everyday in Tallahassee (or ever..lol)
Here's some another good pic from that night. Everyone came in amazing costumes. It was so fun!
The following night, Saturday, was the Biohazard show. Once again, Daledi, 1800-Lolita, and Ahri hit the decks once again but this time set in an abandoned factory. The factory is leased by Constantine, this chud-y guy who owns motorcycles and uses the factory as a dojo.
Honestly, this show was so chaotic. Jacob and I drove to Jacksonville to grab the speaker and set it up with a generator to power the equipment. We had just enough left-over power for some lights and that was about it. My friend Daphne and David at the time helped table. The line was SO long.. it went completely way down the street. Around 12am the nearby club shut down due to production issues, so the people that were there walked over. I estimated around 500 more people wanted to get in. I don't remember the exact head count but man I tell you it was insane. People were climbing on the roof, doing pull ups on the wood ceiling frame, and crawling in every which corner of this place. It was hard to believe that I helped make this happen. After this night, a lot of people credited me for paving a scene like this in Tally. I will forever look back on this night as a good one, a truly winded, sleazy, teenage party for sure.
counting money lolz |
my friends and i at the factory rave |
The 30th I'll go over quickly because it was honestly lamer than the last two.. I got asked to play Nelly Furtado's Man Eater so you can already guess the crowd from that one. Just a bunch of white, cishet college students in a house. They broke the house owner's floor.. lol.
December 3rd, 2022 - ICE HAUS
On a very chilly Saturday night, Daledi, 1800-Lolita, and myself storm the decks once again for an outdoor rave event! Also a fun night, I was so delighted to have my friends dance for me. I played a lot of 90s techno at this one. Such a cute setup too with the fake snow.
January 14th, 2023 - XXXcelerate
Ok so this ones like a 6/10. I removed points because, honestly, this has to go down as one of my worst sets. I catered to the wrong crowd at this one. Although I merely opened this gig, I left a precedent of playing dubstep and similarly mid tracks during this set. That's why it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Besides that, the concept was awesome. Turnout was great. We set the DJ board on a car and it turned out to be a great setup. Also- my fit went so hard.I was never deterred at any point! Just disappointed with the track selection I made at this one. My relationship with the other DJs seemingly took a hit as a result. Every one's gotta have their flop era at one point or another. It's all good.
